Maraş powder (MP) is widely used instead of cigarette smoking in the south-eastern region of our country. MP is at least as harmful as tobacco to the cardiovascular system. Patients using MP are prone to show exaggerated hemodynamic responses such as tachycardia and hypertension to endotracheal intubation. A 27-year-old male patient who was scheduled for lumbar discectomy gave a history of MP consumption by chewing and smoking 15-20 units/day, for 7 years. Here, this is the first report on a patient consuming MP in the literature. Anaesthesia induction was supported with fentanyl and lidocaine to reduce the intubation side effects. This case is reported where the surgery and anesthesia were performed without any adverse events.
